Allen is the founder of Eye Zen Optical, an independent optical practice in Singapore focused on personalised spectacle solutions and helping customers with complex or difficult-to-correct visual requirements.

Having worked in the optical industry since 2005, Allen has developed his approach around a simple principle:
A pair of spectacles should not only provide the correct prescription — it should work comfortably for the person wearing it.
This philosophy eventually led to the establishment of Eye Zen Optical in 2022.

Allen's Journey in Opticianry
Allen began working in the optical industry in 2005.
Before establishing Eye Zen Optical, he gained experience at Eye Zone Optical, where years of working directly with customers exposed him to a wide variety of prescriptions, spectacle requirements and visual complaints.
Over time, one area became increasingly important to him:
Some customers continued to experience visual discomfort even when their spectacle prescription appeared to be correct.

They might describe problems such as:

Why Allen Founded Eye Zen Optical
Allen founded Eye Zen Optical in 2022 with the aim of providing a more personalised approach to opticianry.
Rather than treating every spectacle prescription as a standard transaction, Eye Zen Optical was built around understanding the individual wearing the spectacles.
Two people can have similar prescriptions but very different visual requirements.
Their occupation, working distance, previous spectacles, frame choice, lens design, binocular visual requirements and adaptation history can all influence how comfortable a pair of spectacles feels.

This is particularly important when the visual requirement is more complex than ordinary short-sightedness or long-sightedness.
